Tami Collup Scheinman Jennifer, you have to open google earth, then go to inciweb and open their fire info link. All it gives you are the latest pinpoints of reported hot spots -not up to date satellite. With all this technology, you'd think they could, right??

My grandparents visited Greer in the 1920's - My parents honeymooned there in 1948 - We started coming up regularly in 1960, stayed at Wiltbanks every summer until we built our own place in Crosby Acres in 1983. Heartbreaking! A cabin can be replaced, but it will be a long time before the most beautiful place on earth recovers....

Tracy McCormick Ours is in Crosby Acres, too. My dad started building in the late 70s. Yes, a cabin can be replaced. Thank goodness for insurance. My fear is that nobody will want to rebuild on charred land, no trees, no forest. Greer would be gone and I don't think it would come back. :(

My parents are also in Crosby Acres. My Grandparents, the Tribers, bought the little one-room cabin on the corner and expanded it as we spent our summers there, riding horses in the meadow across from Molly Butler's, going there for the bes...t ribs I've had to this day, hiking all over Hall Creek and up the cinder mountain, walking all over Eager (by myself because it was SO safe!) After Grandpadaddy (John Triber) died, my parents, Chuck Clifford C. Collup and Gretchen moved there to rebuild it to their full-time home and have planted all four feet firmly in the community. My sister and I look forward to possibly retiring there one day. We lost my Grandpalady (Billye Jean Triber) less than a year ago, now Mom may be in danger of losing their home. I have such a knot in my stomach, I can't even tell you!

(Mom, Dad, dogs, and RV are currently in Mesa, BTW, and ravenous for any info I can report off the web.)See More

Kay Zahn Melanie, I hear what you hear, and it sounds like it is, but that they are still fighting it. Earlier it seemed like they had given it up to an inferno . . but it didn't seem clear. . . . Mark would ONLY confirm for me that they have not retreated and left Greer to burn.

Melanie, the best information we have now is that no fires have been detected in Greer as of yet, according to the satellite fire detection system called MODIS. Fire was rapidly advancing from the south up the east fork, as well as encroach...ing from the north near Heaven Scent Cabins, all afternoon. The fire was threatening to crest the entire eastern ridge, really. It has since slowed down considerably. Greer is not out of the woods yet, but for right now it is not burning.See More

Kay Zahn I heard (unconfirmed and NOT from Mark) that there have been fires near Heaven Scent (which is on wonderland road, past butterfly lodge) so maybe? they retreated there to work that end . . . . I'm not sure, but the reports that the village was "engulfed" and they retreated to let it burn . . . are UNTRUE.

The Google Earth fire detection and intensity sensors are showing low temp fire 1/3 mi E of the Tin Star, and 1/2 mi S of the Red Setter Inn. higher intensity fire E and S of the fire lines. not detecting fire E of the main road yet. perhaps if there are FF's on site, if the winds die as expected, the cool air settles in and the meadown and lakes do thier jobs, the damage will be contained to the East side of the town.

It's on a hilltop where the Cell towers are???? I'm asking for more into. But it has been confirmed that the Cell Site at the Community Center still has AC Power. He'd have lost it 5hours after power outage if that were the case. So thi...s morning we must have all lost our web cams and phone lines to a phone switch outage. But if we have power that means things like pumps from wells and sprinklers systems will work (mine is on)See More

Grace Alvarez look at the map attached movement of flames has been north of Greer seems like the fire has a natural barrier with the creeks and small lakes going down the canyon where South Fork Ranch is located. I pray Greer is just smoke engulfed and not flames.
